Pangolin Craft Beer Bottle Shop & Bar coming to Hillsborough

Middlewood Road is becoming a new hot spot in the city as a third exciting independent is to open up around the Hillsborough Park tram stop since the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Pangolin Craft Beer bottle shop & bar, next door to The Orange Bird restaurant and across the road from Molly’s Cafe & Deli will be offering craft beer to take home or enjoyed freshly poured from the tap (when restrictions allow them to).

We caught up with owner, dog lover (fellow dog fans, enjoy the pic below) and a familiar face from the Walkley Beer Co. Nick to find out a little more about the Pangolin, set to open next month.

“The concept is a shop with ancillary on sales. Essentially half shop and half bar. We will be offering cask, keg and canned/bottled craft beer along with a small selection of wines, cider and pre-mixed gin and tonics. The beer will be sourced locally, nationally and internationally.

It will mainly be modern craft beer stocking sales such as pales, IPAs, stouts, porters and sours. This will be supplemented with classic European beers from Germany and Belgium amongst others. All products including draft beer will be available for drinking on the premises or taking away.

We’re aiming to open mid to late March provided licensing goes smoothly and depending on COVID-19 restrictions. Hopefully we’ll be able to open as an off licence initially and then add seating later in the year when it’s appropriate.

I’ve lived in Hillsborough for 12 years or so and think there is an opportunity for the type of business and products we can provide. The excitement and attention both Molly’s and The Orange Bird have generated show the customer base and enthusiasm for the type of business we want to be is definitely here in Hillsborough.

Whilst I have worked at Walkley Beer Co. for around 5 years, The Pangolin is my own project and will have its own identity. Obviously the experience and knowledge I’ve gained definitely helps me prepare and envisage elements of the Pangolin, being in Hillsborough the Pangolin will also evolve to work in this neighbourhood and with the other independent businesses nearby to find its own niche in the area and within the wider Sheffield craft beer community.”

To help the Pangolin get off to the best start possible they have launched a crowdfunder campaign but it is more than you just giving them your money…

“Whilst obviously a way of raising extra funds for the business, the crowdfunder was conceived as a way of providing the potential customer base with a way to invest emotionally into the business, and create a buzz prior to opening. The reaction we’ve had so far has been incredible and far exceeds anything we anticipated. Its quite humbling to have such support already!”
