"I WANTED TO SELL PRETTY DRESSES"
Hi my name is Sam Parsonage and I’m the owner of the award winning independent retro vintage boutique Miss Samantha’s Vintage which is based on South Road, Walkley. Miss Samantha’s Vintage sells vintage reproduction clothing and accessories.
I opened the boutique as I wanted to “sell pretty dresses”. In Sheffield there was only one shop that did sell the types of clothes that I wanted to wear but not in my size and not always in the design or colours I wanted. I used to have to travel to Cleethorpes to visit a vintage retro shop or it was online shopping, with all the associated perils that brings. I left a full-time job to become my own boss in February 2018 and opened the boutique on March the 23rd.
I love being able to do my own thing, being my own boss, it’s been a steep learning curve for me, but knowing it’s my name above then door means so much.
I love the fact that I have built a community around the shop which has branched out and people who didn’t know each other now do.
Sheffield is my own city, I’m so proud to say that I’m from Sheffield. I love how it is constantly reinventing itself. You have to just look around and see how this is happening. Old buildings being changed into cafes etc. Just look at Kelham Island and Kommune for the change that have happened there.
I’m a lover of coffee (and cake!) so you’ll find me in Aesthete Coffee and Kitchen (next door but one to me. When I’m out with Mr P we enjoy going to La Piazza Del Coffee on Brightside Lane. For the best afternoon entertainment and cocktails, it’ s got to be Leopold Square on any Bank holiday!
