How to help Nether Edge's independents during Coronavirus times

Today is the Nether Edge Farmers’ Market and it couldn’t have come at a better time for local independent businesses in Nether Edge and on Abbeydale Road who’ve had a tough couple of weeks, and it is only going to get worse.

Running an independent business is hard at the best of times, the coronavirus has just made it more challenging, despite their best efforts. Restaurants have seen cancellation after cancellation whilst shops and pubs are like ghost towns. These businesses still have to be staffed (who are also running the risk of catching coronavirus too), pay rent, rates and other bills (as well as the cost of shed loads of hand sanitiser) and survive.

Supporting your local independent businesses is easier said than done but they really need your help right now.

If you aren’t self isolating due to coronavirus or you aren’t vulnerable please go for a drink in our local independent cafe or pub, have a meal out and shop in our convenience stores, their staff are probably lonely, they’d appreciate your company.

The chain stores have the infrastructure to survive much longer than independents, many have to rely on week-to-week income. As long as it’s safe to be open they will be open.

They are here to serve our community.

So, see you later at Nether Edge Farmers’ Market then? And, if you want to do something, there’s still gigs going on at the Picture House Social.

For those who are unfortunately staying in doors or don’t feel comfortable sharing space with strangers, you can help too.

There’s many restaurants offering take away options such as La Baracca and Nether Edge Pizza so you can enjoy that restaurant standard food, at home. Some offer delivery too.

Want to drink but don’t want to sit in a bar or pub? Grab a few cans/bottles from Two Thirds, the Dead Donkey or Turners Bottle Shop.

Don’t want to leave the house?Order online from Abbeydale Brewery and get beer delivered to your door! Save 10% when you enter ‘THISISSHEFFIELD’ at the check.

Obviously your health is the most important thing and it’s scary times out there but if you can help, help.
